1. Find the Right Wheel Spacers for Your Tesla Model Q

If you’re looking for a set of well-built wheel spacers, these factors below will help you stay away from those low-quality spacers:

  • Firstly, check out whether the bolt pattern (PCD), center bore (CB), and thickness are compatible with your Model Q;
  • Find out the material. Either forged 6061-T6 or 7075-T6 billet Aluminum spacer is better;
  • Whether they are hub-centric design? Hub-centric wheel spacers reduce chances of vibration;
  • Check out the strength of the provided lug studs and lug nuts, since they are important components to secure the spacers and wheels;
  • Does the merchant provide the corresponding authoritative test report for the above performance parameters?

2. Lift Your Tesla Model Q Safely

If you have a set of wheel spacers available, the first thing you need to do is to prepare some hand tools and a way to lift your car. You can do this with a car lift or a floor jack and jack stands. Before lifting your Model Q, pack your car on a level surface and loosen all the lug nuts in a “Star” shape pattern but do not fully remove them. When you lift the car with a floor jack, remember to place jack stands to support each end of the car.

3. Remove One of the Wheels

Using a wrench to finish removing all the lug nuts on the raised wheel. Hold the wheel with your hands to prevent a sudden drop and slowly slide it off the hub and set it to the side for a short while.

4. Install the Wheel Spacer

There are several critical tips that may help you get proper installation:

  • Spray degreaser on the studs and use a wire brush to clean the threads. This allows the lug nuts to fasten well.
  • If the hub is dirty, rusted, or pitted use the emery cloth to clean up the surface. Wipe down the entire hub surface, ensuring it is clean and smooth. This needs to be done thoroughly. Any rust that exists will cause the spacer to be installed not completely parallel to the hub.
  • Test if the spacer fits your vehicle hub. Ensure that the spacer is firmly seated and flush against the hub.
  • Use the provided lug nuts to tighten the wheel spacer to the factory studs. Carefully turn the lug nuts by hand to ensure they are easy to thread in to avoid cross-thread. Tighten the lug nuts with a torque wrench in a star pattern. This should be done to the manufacturer-recommended torque.
  • Double-check that all lug nuts are tightened to the manufacturer’s specification with a properly calibrated torque wrench in a crisscross, star pattern.

5. Properly Mount the Wheel

Install the wheel onto the new studs that protrude from the wheel spacer and make it seat firmly against the wheel spacer. Fasten the lug nuts in a star or crisscross pattern using a lug wrench but do not torque the lug nuts fully. Use the floor jack to lift the car so that you can remove the jack stands, use the jack to lower the car slowly until the wheel is in full contact with the ground, and then remove the jack. Use a torque wrench with the manufacturer-recommended torque specification to snug up the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure that the load is applied evenly. But do not overtighten the nuts.

6. Repeat With the Rest of the Wheels for Your Model Q
