Extended wheel bolts (also called longer wheel bolts, extended lug bolts) are designed with longer thread lengths to allow full thread penetration with wheel spacers or wider aftermarket rims of a different offset. Any time you run wheel spacers, extended wheel bolts are a must option for properly fastening the wheel to the vehicle hub. Without the proper thread length, the stock lug bolts will not allow penetrating the vehicle hub threads completely which can cause car shaking or safety risk.

How to confirm the thread type and length of extended bolts?

Generally, it’s easy to figure out the correct size of bolt, all you need to do is to measure the length of your stock bolt then add the thickness of the required spacer, and that will be your ideal extended bolt length. In most cases, you need a bolt that is longer by the thickness of the spacer, for example, your stock bolts are 27mm, the desired spacer is 12mm, then the right size of extended bolts would be 39mm. But there can be exceptions. Considering the critical importance of the length of thread fully engaged in the axle hub (a minimum of 10mm of threads is required to safely secure the wheel), it’s always best to measure from the wheel bolt you’re currently using.

How to confirm the seat type of extended bolts?

Typically, it is the same seat type as the stock bolts you’re using. There are conical seat, R12 ball seat, R13 ball seat, R14 ball seat, flat seat, etc. For the factory wheels, the seat type of the extended bolts must be the same as the factory wheel bolts. For the aftermarket wheels, the seat type of the extended bolts must be the same as the type of the aftermarket wheels. It is essential that the wheel bolts seat and the wheel lug seat match. If the wheel bolts seat type does not fit the wheel seat type, it is possible that the wheel bolts would be bent or damage the wheel. The mismatch between bolts and wheels could potentially cause the bolt to loosen and the wheel to become insecure to the vehicle.
